Bates Steals Sprint Victory from York
Barnes makes it 3 for 3 in Front Wheel Drive

Story by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (May 8, 2010) - Ricky York of Bixby was only two laps away from a second straight sprint car victory Saturday night at Creek County Speedway. But a yellow flag with in the final two laps forced a restart and Bates took advantage to roar past York for the win.
Bates charged outside of York on the restart in turn one and stormed into the lead with one lap remaining. It was Bates second victory of the season and kept him on top of the points race.
The race was just one lap old with Jackie York leading when Kevin Cummings got sideways and collected Chris Pillar, Waylon Weaver and Robbie Sherrell. Ricky York took over the lead on the restart and was chased by Nicholas Lucito. But only two laps later the red waved as Cummings flipped in turn three and landed back on all fours. York continued to lead but Bates moved into second. Bates then closed on York and set the stage for the win in the race that only went six laps due to exceeding the 20 minute time limit.

Roger Sawyer lost the lead then regained it to win a hard fought modified feature. Sawyer jumped into the early lead with Ho Dean moving into second on lap four. Dean found his way around Sawyer on lap nine and appeared to have the race under control. But Sawyer managed to mount a challenge again on lap 16. Entering turn one of lap 16 Sawyer drove past in turn two to take the lead back and went on to post the victory. Dean held on to second and Craig Chaffin was third.

Steve Freeman won his first feature of the season in the pure stocks. Freeman passed Phil Martin on lap three for the lead. Martin followed in second and was never able to challenge Freeman.

There is no stopping Eric Barnes in the front wheel drive division. Barnes remained undefeated in 2010 with his third straight victory. Barnes was in third by the third lap and drove by leader Amy Guess for lead on lap seven. Devin Gerrior got by Guess on the same lap and went after Barnes. Gerrior did pull outside of Barnes on lap 14 and again on 15 but each time Barnes would pull back in front. Gerrior had to settle for second while Dusty Bryant picked up third.

York Wins Sprint Feature Over 30 Car Field
136 Drivers Entered Sunday's Make-up Program

Story by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (May 2, 2010) - The threat of rain showers on Saturday forced promoter Jackie Green to postpone for one day, but that did not seem to dampen anyone's appetite for racing. A season high 136 drivers filled the Creek County Speedway pits to overflowing and when the final checkered flag finally fell four new winners emerged. Ricky York, Matt French, Justin Green and Jerry Colby won for the first time this season.

York started on the pole of the sprint car main event and that was all he needed to post a victory in the 20-lap feature over a season-high 30 car field. York shot into the lead and stayed down on the bottom of the track with Chris Pillars and Kevin Cummings right behind. Two laps later Waylon Weaver moved into third and started to reel in Pillar. On lap six Weaver challenged Pillar in turn three and took over the runner-up spot. York continued his run out front until lap 14 when Kevin Risley turned over between turns 1-2 on lap 14. Following the restart rookie Brady Demeree passed Pillar for third. Weaver and Demeree chased York to the finish. Pillar fell to fourth.

French passed Nick Henson in turn four of the opening lap for the lead in the modified feature and raced unchallenged to his first victory of the season.
Ho Dean was first to go after French after he slipped around Henson for second on lap four with Roger Sawyer following into third. The top three stayed close and did not change unto lap 10 when Sawyer went high in turn one to pass Dean for second. Dean attempted to challenge Sawyer to regain second but settled for a third place finish behind Sawyer. Neither one could run down French.

The super stock feature only went 10 laps, but it was good for Justin Green who picked up the victory. Green led from the start with James Esmond in second. The yellow waved after four laps and Esmond exited to the pits. Austin McSperitt restarted in second but could not catch Green. Nathan Campbell worked his way into third.

Justin Cartwright won a tight battle with former champion Kenny Grumadas to pick up his second straight mini stock feature. Cartwright and Grumadas ran side-by-side on lap 10 before Cartwright pulled ahead just before the yellow waved. On the restart the race only ran two more laps as the 20 minute time limit expired and Cartwright finished ahead of Grumadas and Michael Stucks in third.
Grumadas was the early leader after passing Orran Boyce on lap three. Daniel Ray Denton gave chase until he was bumped from behind by Eddie Johnson and causing him to spin on lap nine. Cartwright moved into second on the restart.

Jerry Colby passed Toby Cooper for the lead on the lap three then drove his station wagon to victory in the pure stock feature. Justin McBride drove by Cooper for second then was challenged by Johnny Carpenter on lap 10. Carpenter worked his way past McBride on lap 11 but could not close on Colby. McBride finished third.

Tim Barnes dominated the front wheel drive division for the second straight week. Bill Brashier drove into the early lead but gave way to Slim Burklin on lap three. Barnes charged around Brashier on lap four for second and closed on Burklin. Barnes moved inside of Burklin on the backstretch of lap eight for the lead.

Friday night Late Model stock cars come to Creek County Speedway for the very first time when the O'Reilly National Championship Racing Association and the MARS Dirt Car Series bring their "Showdown in the Heartland II" to the speedway for a 7 p.m. show. Drivers from Colorado to Missouri will be here for the $2,500 to win event. NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader will also be racing and sigining autographs. Super stocks and mini stocks will also be racing.
All six classes will return to regular point action on Saturday. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and racing returns to a 7 p.m. starting time.

Wood Nails Down ASCS Sooner Region Opener
Lee Tops Super Stocks While Fear Wins in Pure

Story by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (April 24, 2010) - Defending champion Joe Wood, Jr. did something Saturday night that he was not able to do throughout the 2009 season - win an A feature. Wood was winless in 2009 but won the ASCS American Bank of Oklahoma Sooner Region championship on the strength of consistent top 10 finishes.
Saturday's race at Creek County Speedway was the season opener for the traveling series and now Wood will not have to wonder when he might get that first victory. The Oklahoma City driver took an early lead and crossed the finish line just ahead of second place Nick Smith and third place Tony Bruce, Jr.
Five sprinters tangled in turn two to stop the race with only three laps remaining. But on the restart Wood had no trouble regaining his lead for the final three laps. Kenneth Walker and Andy Shouse rounded out the top five.
Jesse Hockett and Donnie Ray Crawford captured B features.

Stacy Lee outran Tommy Romine to win the super stock feature. Romine stayed within striking distance over the 20-lap distance. But Lee never gave up the groove on the way to victory. Paul Fears led the way in pure stocks winning over Phil Martin. Opening night winner Johnny Carpenter finished third.

All six classes will return to action on Saturday. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and racing returns to a 7 p.m. starting time.

Six Winners Emerge from Record Opening Night Creek County Speedway Turnout

by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (April 10, 2010) - The long awaited 2010 racing season finally got underway Saturday night at Creek County Speedway with a good turnout of fans and one of the largest car counts in recent years. A total of 127 cars checked into the pits and the combination of first night issues resulted in a late start and a long night. Something that promoter Jackie Green does not intend to have happen again. But the it was a night of competitive racing with six drivers coming away with opening night wins.

Defending champion Brent Bates made a late charge to the front and won the sprint car feature over Danny Smith and Jamie Passmore.
Rookie Brady Demeree jumped into the early lead and was making a serious bid to win in his first night out as he held off Smith. Meanwhile Bates was on the move and drove around Smith for second on lap nine. Bates closed on Demeree but could not get past on the outside. On lap 13 Bates was able to get underneath Demeree on the backstretch and took away the lead. Smith and Passmore charged around Demeree on the final lap leaving the rookie with a very respectable fourth place finish. Jerrod Wilson finished in fifth.

Jason Redman went the distance to win the modified division main event. Redman jumped into an early lead chased by defending champion Ho Dean. Just before halfway Chad Davis passed Dean for second and chased Redman to the finish. Dean finished in third ahead of Joel Hill and Matt French.

Bobby Wolfe swept the super stock division winning his heat and A feature. Wolfe led from start to finish over a 24-car field. Justin Green ran second early before James Esmond got past. Esmond chased down Wolfe but settled for second.

Eight yellow flags turned the mini stock feature into a long drawn-out affair, but when the checkered finally waved Justin Cartwright emerged with the victory.
Cartwright ran strong all 15-laps to win over former champion Kenny Grumadas. Grumadas dueled his way past defending champion Michael Stucks on lap nine and went after Cartwright. Jay Denton moved into two laps from the finish dropping Stucks to fourth.

Johnny Carpenter passed Paul Fears at the halfway point and went on to victory in the pure stock feature. Fears led from the start but Carpenter closed in and the two ran door handle to door handle on lap seven. Carpenter pulled out front and drove away to victory. Fears finished second with lap two leader Phil Martin finishing third.

A record 27 front wheel drive competitors made the night competitive but that did not slow down Eric Barnes in the least. Shannon Tanner was leading over Barnes with one lap remaining when Tanner got sideways entering turn one. Barnes took advantage and roared past for the lead. Tanner recovered in time to hold on to second.

Week two of the 2010 racing season gets underway on Saturday with all classes running for regular season points. Gates open at 4 p.m. with the first green flag dropping at 6.

PLAY DAY PIC’s

Point Racing Begins Saturday

KELLYVILLE, OKLAHOMA (April 8, 2010)
- The 2010 racing season is finally here. After months of winter weather and remodeling the new and improved Creek County Speedway opened with a practice session on Thursday. The pits were nearly full and a good crowd was on hand to watch drivers turn their first laps on the revamped quarter mile oval
Many changes have been made to the facility but the biggest change is the racing surface. The track has been widened to 65 feet all the way around for safer and more exciting side-by-side racing. Turns 1-2 have been pushed out 65 feet giving the quarter mile longer straightaways. A guardrail and hot pit lane has been added at the top of turns 1-2.
New guardrail has been added all the way around the track plus a wall now encloses the track in turns 3-4 and on the backstretch. Guardrail and small barriers line the inside of the turns.
The press tower has been repainted and re-roofed as has the bathrooms. Even the inside of the restrooms have been worked on and re-painted.
You can get your first look at the new Creek County Speedway this Saturday. Gates open at 4 p.m. Racing starts at 6.
